Proposed amendments to the Selected List Scheme (SLS) in Wales
We want your views on proposed amendments to the Selected List Scheme (SLS) in Wales.
The SLS specifies medicines that may only be prescribed by general practitioners (GPs) on the NHS in clearly defined clinical circumstances.
The medicines covered by the SLS, and the circumstances in which they can be prescribed, are set out in Schedule 2 to the National Health Service (General Medical Services Contracts) (Prescription of Drugs etc.) (Wales) Regulations 2004, as amended.
In practical terms, this means the SLS limits the prescribing of a small number of medicines by GPs in Wales to situations where:
- the benefits of using them are clear
and does not allow them to be prescribed where:
- the benefits are not as obvious
- there are potential risks
