  • Bravery: For an individual or group who has shown remarkable courage in the face of danger or adversity, even when it puts them at personal risk.
  • Business and Innovation: For an individual, group, or organisation that has achieved exceptional success through business or innovation. This may include creating  employment, developing new products, services, processes, technologies or ideas that benefit society and raise the profile of Welsh enterprise.
  • Children's Champion: This award recognises an individual, group, or organisation that has made an exceptional contribution to improving the lives of children in Wales. This could include those working in education, health, social care, sport, the arts, or the voluntary sector — or anyone whose dedication, innovation, or advocacy has made a meaningful and lasting difference to children's lives.
  • Community Champion: For someone who has made a real and lasting difference to the lives of people in their local community or across Wales. For example, someone who has set up or led initiatives that bring people together, tackled local problems, or improved the wellbeing of those around them.
  • Culture: For someone who has achieved excellence in any area of arts or culture. This includes any art form or creative medium; from music, literature and visual arts to film, theatre, heritage, and the Welsh language. Nominees may have made their mark in Wales or brought Welsh culture to a wider audience.
  • Environment: For an individual, group, or organisation that has made an outstanding contribution to protecting or improving the natural environment. This could be at a local, Wales-wide, or international level and might include conservation work, sustainability initiatives, environmental education, or community-led action to address climate change.
  • Public Service: For an individual or team working on the frontline of public services who have gone above and beyond to deliver an exceptional service. This includes workers across health, education, social care, emergency services and all other frontline public services.
  • Sport: For an individual, team, or group who has achieved excellence in sport at a national or international level, or who has made an exceptional contribution to helping others to succeed. Nominees may be competitors, coaches, officials, or those who have worked behind the scenes to support our elite athletes.
  • Volunteering: For an individual or group who freely gives their time, without payment, to support others or to strengthen their community. This could include volunteering for a local organisation, a national charity, or a grassroots project. Nominees may also be recognised for their work in fundraising or raising awareness of causes that benefit Wales and its people.
  • Young Person: For an exceptional and inspirational young person, or group of young people, aged between 11 and 19, who have made an outstanding contribution or achieved something remarkable in any field. This could be in areas such as sport, the arts, community action, enterprise, volunteering, or any other field where they have had a positive impact.

  • Paint a picture of the person or group in order that those involved in the judging process can understand exactly who they are before reading in the next section about why what they’ve done is worthy of being considered for a national award
  • Even if the person you are nominating is well-known, you must write down what it is they do and what they have achieved. Don't assume that those involved in the judging process will already know.

  • Give good examples and explain how your nominee has achieved success. Saying; “John Smith has raised a lot of money for the charity” will not be enough, try “John Smith organised a charity 5k run in the village and acquired the support of well-known local sponsors. His efforts raised £5,000 for the charity”.
  • Give as many facts that you’re aware of or can find online. Feel free to use bullet-pointed lists as opposed to full sentences if you are nearing the maximum word count.
